The saffron stigmas contain more than 150 volatile aromatic substances that make up its essential oil, carotenoids (crocetin, a-crocin, picrocrocin, safranal) which give the typical golden-yellow colour, and vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin). The saffron is rich in antioxidants, with great skills in contrasting free radicals. Furthermore, it is a good anti-inflammatory, one of the most powerful in the natural world, a great soothing, useful in cases of irritations or sensitive skins.
